History

The story of
Seminole Heights

Seminole Heights was platted in 1911 and developed through the 1920s as a streetcar suburb of downtown Tampa. The neighborhood's original homes — Craftsman bungalows, Colonial Revivals, and Mediterranean cottages — were built for middle-class families who commuted downtown by trolley. The streetcar line ran along Florida Avenue, and the neighborhood grew around it. After decades of disinvestment in the late 20th century, Seminole Heights began its comeback in the early 2000s when artists, chefs, and entrepreneurs were drawn by affordable homes and strong bones. Today it's one of Tampa's most dynamic neighborhoods.
