History
The story of
Lake Nona
Lake Nona's transformation began in the early 2000s when Tavistock Development Company acquired thousands of acres of former ranch land in southeast Orlando. The master plan centered on creating a community around a world-class medical and research cluster. The opening of the Burnham Institute for Medical Research (now Sanford Burnham Prebys) in 2009 was the catalyst, followed by the VA Medical Center, UCF Health Sciences Campus, and Nemours Children's Hospital. Lake Nona Town Center opened in 2019 and continues to expand. The community has attracted national attention for its smart-city infrastructure, autonomous vehicle testing, and wellness-focused design.
